When I begin a work of art I rarely have a preconceived idea of where the creative process will take me. My goal is simply to give tangible expression to landscapes that exist, for me, both in memory and in imagination. Each painting becomes, therefore, a union of those two elements. When I begin to create a painting, I randomly divide the canvas or board into sections, like pieces of a puzzle. As I layer image upon image, some elements disappear while others emerge. The shadows from previous layers show the history of the painting, suggesting the passage of time. Finally I use color and a spare composition to create a sense of quiet.

I create large abstract beach paintings, inspired by the sun, sand, water & beaches of The Atlantic Ocean.
